- 01
Open the developer tools
Press F12 in Chrome or Edge, or right-click the page and choose Inspect. In Safari, first enable Show Web Inspector from the Develop menu.
- 02
Switch to the Network panel
Click the Network tab and tick Preserve log. This step matters, because otherwise the log is cleared whenever the page changes.
- 03
Clear the existing requests
Click the blocked icon at the top left to empty the log. Everything you see afterwards comes from your own action.
- 04
Pick files and merge
Go back to the tool, choose a PDF or a few audio files, and press the merge button.
- 05
Confirm that nothing was uploaded
Alongside those, expect one third-party request to analytics.ahrefs.com, our cookieless page-view tracker. It never receives your file contents, and it cannot see your file names. No POST or PUT carrying a file: nothing left your device.
The one exception worth naming is page-view analytics: Ahrefs measures which pages are read using a cookieless tracker that stores no identifier on your device. Your files are outside its reach either way.
